Music > Piano
Lesson Name: Patricia Thompson, PhD
My approach to teaching is to allow children to have fun learning to play piano while maintaining a relatively structured environment. I believe that a child's music education should be well-rounded, so in addition to teaching them how to read music and play the piano, children are exposed to ear training, theory and piano technique. My background in clinical psychology also helps me to cater to various learning styles. In addition, I have experience with children with attentional difficulties, learning disabilities, and behavioral problems.
Years of Experience: 15
Biography
I am a piano teacher with 15 years of experience. I received degrees in piano performance and pedagogy (teaching) through the Western Board of Music in Canada (now called Conservatory Canada). I have accompanied musicians, singers, and ballet classes and acted as the musical director of a church. In addition, I have competed in numerous competitions and won various awards for my piano performance skills. Finally, I have taught students of all ages, most recently with the Neighborhood Music Schools at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. Currently, I am looking for private students in the Atlanta area.
