Biography
PRIVATE TEACHING:

I have been teaching voice and piano since 1989. In that time, I have been honored to work with young children and retirees, extremely gifted individuals and special needs students, raw beginners and experienced professionals. I feel that my love of people helps me to connect with my students on a very special level, that allows both of us to grow, no matter our starting point!

PUBLIC SCHOOLS:

I began teaching in the public schools in 1996--the year I became engaged my my wonderful composer husband, David. (We were married the following summer.) While I have taught mainly vocal music on the secondary level, I have experience teaching general music and beginning band. In addition, I have also spent a very informative year teaching 3rd grade, as well as a much more rewarding year working with the at-risk population in central Florida.

As of Summer 2004, I will be beginning a second Masters Degree in Music, this time in Choral Conducting.

CHURCH:

I have always been a church musician since I was first allowed to sing in the choir! I have been professionally involved in chuch music since my first job as a choir director in 1993 while still in school. Since then, I have worked mainly in the Methodist church -- although I'm not constrained by denomintion. I have also either conducted, subbed, or soloed for the AME Zion Church, Lutheran, Baptist, Episcopal, and Presbyterian churches. I am currently singing in the choir at St. Paul's in downtown KC, and very much enjoying someone else making the decisions for a change!

MUSICAL THEATER/COMMUNITY CHOIR

I have had more than my share of community based choirs and musical theater. I've directed Oklahoma! and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown most recently, while my last three leading roles were Rose in Bye, Bye Birdie; Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music; and Aldonza in Man of la Mancha. I also have experience in lighting, stage managing, pit orchestra, and conducting the pit.
